Thanks to all who participated in the 2018 edition of our club predicted-time walk, about the 25th time that it has been held ranging from 3K to 5K. Thanks also to the race assistants, Karen Swisher and Fred Adams and to all who brought the good eats and helped set up and clean up. We finally were able to get this 2018 version of the Be-A-Walker completed after a one-month delay and look forward to continuing this tradition next year (with a little less moisture from Mother Nature). Special congratulations to Tom Oakes who tied the all-time record for prediction.

This race was scheduled for July 13 in the evening but was cancelled before the walk because of lightning in the area and was rescheduled for Saturday morning. Two walkers were not able to return on Saturday: Karen Swisher and Maggie McCoy. All the others have now qualified for the National State Games of America in 2019 in Virginia.

Brew to Brew Relay 43 miles
April 8, 2018 Kansas City to Lawrence
Team – Heartland Hipsters
Eight hardy Heartland Race Walkers combined to create one team for the 2018 Brew to Brew Race. The cold freezing temperatures and windy, wet weather conditions served up rain sleet and snow at times making for a most challenging day on the course. Martha McCarter and Marcie Reyelts stepped up as team co-captains and did a great job with team communication and coordinating leg assignments. Martha McCarter did an excellent job recording and reporting the results on the chart provided.Team members were all Brew to Brew veterans. A great day of team fun, hardiness and survival was capped off with our traditional celebration at the Mad Greek Restaurant in Lawrence.
